Christians and they role we play in environmental issues.

I know that this post is a little outside the normal parameters of this blog but more than a few people who follow me are Christians and it is my conviction that because of bad theology much of the Church is not active in Environmental Issues.

This has a Christian flavour but is also important to Christian and non-Christan alike, we all have to live on this planet.

Yahweh gave Adam a mandate to care for the planet He had provided for him.
As Christians, we have a caretaker mandate from God to care for this planet.
Other than how cruel we are on the animals and the environment Yahweh has charged us with looking after.
Futurism has taught most of the Church that Yeshua is coming soon.
If Yeshua is coming back in our immediate future what motivation do we have to care long-term for our planet?
Yeshua has been coming back tomorrow for 2,000 years and look at the state of our planet.

My challenge to us would be this.
What if Yeshua does not come back for another 2,000 years.
What state will our planet be in then?
Will we have to give an account to Father one day?
Will He say to us?
What have you done to the planet I gave you to look after and care for ?

Global climate change gets a lot of airtime in the public arena, but waste plastic products causing harm to our environment and our animals is becoming catastrophic and needs to be exposed and we have to face it head-on.

Please brothers and sisters what are we leaving for our children and our children’s children ?
Will they stand up and say what did you leave us?

Should Christians become more active in caring for this planet?

  1. It was with mixed feelings that I started reading your Blog this morning. Not knowing what this is about and how it has anything to do with Nature photography. However I am very glad that I read it and it showed me the other side of Tony that I did not know existed. True words and extremely well put, and believe me I will make sure I spread the jest of this important story to all I can.

  2. Genesis 1:26
Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.

A photographer has captured the damage being done to the planet’s oceans with a shocking “sea of plastic and styrofoam” image taken near a tranquil Caribbean island. Caroline Power, who specialises in underwater photography, has dedicated her career to highlighting the damage plastic waste is doing to our oceans. She said witnessing the plastic blanket of forks, bottles and rubbish between the islands Roatan and Cayos Cochinos, off the coast of Honduras, was “devastating”.

“To see something that I care so deeply for being killed, slowly choked to death by human waste was devastating,” she told The Telegraph.

She said they passed through floating garbage for “nearly five miles”, adding: “Everywhere we looked, plastic bags of all shapes and sizes: chip bags, ziplocks, grocery, trash, snack bags, other packaging. Some were whole and the rest were just pieces. Sadly, many turtles, fish, whales, and seabirds will mistake those bits of plastic for food.

“We then reached an area about two miles wide that had multiple trash lines that stretched from horizon to horizon

“There was also a seemingly infinite number of plastic forks, spoons, drink bottles, and plates. There were broken soccer balls, toothbrushes, a tv, and so many shoes and flip flops.” ~ source https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/10/26/shocking-photo-shows-caribbean-sea-choked-death-human-waste/

    • Its gone beyond ignoring.
Once again I feel that the anti-Biblical dispensationalism system and its futurist view that insists that Yeshua is going to return like yesterday and everyday, based on the signs they see on the 6pm news has a part to play in this. One day we will learn that there will be no escape and that God loves this planet He has provided for us to live on and we all will be held accountable.
Revelation is not my most favourite book to quote from but this quote is important
18“And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

      • I agree. Dispensationalism holds millions in its grips and they want the world to end. It’s as if the faster this earth and environment deteriorates for these Christians then the faster their rapture / 2nd coming will happen.

  3. Exactly which is why I have been fighting this system for over 30 years now.
If Yeshua is always coming back tomorrow, why even bother to look at how to manage this planet for our future kids and their kids to follow.
